6 SCOPE can be used by Novices
SCOPE has a modern Windows XP® ,Vista® and Windows 7® standard intuitive interface which optimises the use of Windows ‘shortcuts’ and function keys. All the key components of a count (Processes, Data, Notes and Attributes) have been modelled to behave identically so that once the User learns to maintain, link and report one component (which is similar to the way MS Explorer® works), they can effectively use all SCOPE functionality.
SCOPE ViewerTM has proven that Users who have no function point knowledge or FP tool experience can effectively review counts and run reports in SCOPE
Comparison to FPW
• FPW’s user interface design pre-dates MS Windows standardization. Many of the function keys and short-cuts are non-Windows standard, making it very difficult for new users to learn, remember and accept without becoming frustrated. This often results in failure for counters to migrate from their spreadsheets to FPW
• FPW uses different structures, concepts, rules, and function keys for each of the count components (transactions, files, notes and labels) thus requires extensive training on how to specifically maintain each type of count component and takes time to be competent in its use
