The theme for ACOSM2009, "Achieving Positive Outcomes in a Changing World", invites presentations that demonstrate how software metrics measurement are being used to address the broad range of contemporary issues faced by both software suppliers and clients in today’s challenging environment. Case studies that clearly demonstrate the application of software metrics measurement within actual business settings are particularly welcome. If you would like to submit a presentation for consideration for ACOSM2009, please email the following information to the ACOSM2009 conference committee at acosm@qesp.org.au: - The presenter’s name and affiliation;
- The presentation title;
- A brief presentation abstract of up to 200 words;
- Five key points that conference participants will take away from the presentation.
Each ACOSM 2009 presenter will have 45 minutes, including 10 minutes for questions. Key ACOSM2009 presentation dates are as follows:- Abstract submission: 31 July 2009
- Notification of presentation acceptance: 31 August 2009
- Full presentation submission: 30 September 2009
Accepted presentations will be published within the ACOSM2009 proceedings and subsequently included on the QESP website. Presentations must be in English. For further details on ACOSM2009 and to view presentations from previous ACOSMs, see the QESP website at www.qesp.org.au. The ACOSM2009 organising committee looks forward to hearing from you. * Note that ACOSM2009 will consider submissions of presentations on academic research into software metrics measurement. ACOSM2009’s primary focus, however, is on the practical application of metrics measurement within the contemporary software delivery maintenance and business environments. Academic presentations should therefore address significant "real world" data or issues to ensure their applicability for inclusion at ACSOM2009. |

| 14th October, 2009 (Nth America) 15th October, 2009 (Australia) 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM EDT(Nth America); 8AM to 9.30AM EDT (Australia) WEBINAR | Pam Morris presents: IFPUG and COSMIC Function Points: Similiarities and Differences As part of the CAI's IT Metrics and Productivity Institute series of free, weekly webinars in 2009, Pam Morris will present via Webinar: "IFPUG and COSMIC Function Points: Similiarities and Differences". While the IFPUG Function Point Analysis (FPA) (ISO/IEC 20976) method for sizing software is the most commonly used, many people are beginning to ask about one of the newer ISO Functional Size Methods - COSMIC-FFP (ISO/IEC 19761). In the last 3 years COSMIC has started gaining market share in the functional size measurement arena particularly in Europe and in the telecommunications and real time systems control applications. This webinar with Pam Morris discusses the similarities and differences between the two sizing methods and provides guidance on the factors you need to consider when deciding which method would be suitable for your software environment.

Keynotes, presenters, exhibitors, and attendees come together to address issues, trends, and solutions of particular interest to the European community. | | 10th - 11th June, 2008 Woodbridge, New Jersey USA | Product & Process Quality Assurance (PPQA) for Software Practitioners The Software Engineering Institute has coined the term Process and Product Quality Assurance (PPQA) to replace the term Software Quality Assurance (SQA) in the CMMI®. Besides having a more descriptive name, another reason for renaming this process area was to eliminate the term “Software” and have it apply to process and product development in general. This also helped minimize the confusion many people had between SQA and testing. This workshop provides a thorough coverage of the PPQA body of knowledge as it applies to software development. This course covers the PPQA Body of Knowledge in only two days. It provides insight in practical PPQA methods and practices to help improve the effectiveness of Software Quality programs and the PPQA professionals who implement them. It can also be used to help prepare for the American Society of Quality's "Certified Software Quality Engineer" (CSQE) Exam. | | 28th - 30th May, 2008 Milan, Italy | Software Measurement European Forum 2008 - Call for Papers The Software Measurement European Forum (SMEF) 2008 is the fifth edition of the successful event already held in Rome in 2004-2005-2006-2007 for the software measurement community. As part of the CAI's IT Metrics and Productivity Institute series of free, weekly webinars in the second quarter of 2008, Pam Morris will present via Webinar: "Would You Survive a Function Point Audit?" Contractual disputes can arise in outsourcing contracts when clients bring in external Function Point Counters to audit the performance metrics of the supplier. Often, this is done without consultation regarding the activities of the audit or without agreement on dispute resolution processes. This Webinar by Pam Morris will discuss the ‘Terms-of-Reference’ that need to be in place before a Function Point audit begins so that, in the end, the client gets what they pay for and the supplier is not unfairly assessed. There has been a great deal of discussion of the merits of implementing a measurement process and the steps that are required to achieve this. This Webinar by Pam Morris will review the implementation of measurement using the ISO/IEC15838 framework and examine how the measures have provided new (and some unexpected) insights into their development and enhancement processes. This Webinar also examines the key success factors of this measurement program that has been effective and evolving for over 2 years and how senior management responded to the measurement data and incorporated it in their decision making.
